birthday week

TB is turning 35 this coming Tuesday and the man is smart for having been born around a holiday.  Thanks to the long weekend we always have the best plans for his birthday.  We also have started treating each other to "birthday week" which makes the countdown even better.  Nothing crazy expensive, just little things...

TB birthday

lamp // t shirt // book // board shorts // game // pen

And "birthday week" also means 7 cards, which is our favorite part by far.
If you are ever in Charlotte make sure to go to Paper Skyscraper.
It is one of my favorite stores to just browse for cards, books, and funny stuff.

Here is one I got Taylor:

inspiration can literally come from anywhere

In my last recap , I shared my new favorite quote.

And guess who spoke these words?
This guy...

Know him?  Yeah, me either until I saw a little video in which he was talking
about a collaboration he is doing with some fashion house.
His name is Miguel and he is a singer that I am sure the youngins are familiar with.

Miguel hit the nail on the head with his statement;
Style is absolutely just an extension of your personality.

Choosing the things that seem appropriate can work,
but choosing the things that are a reflection of your personality
will most certainly result in a room you love.

Where have you found inspiration lately?
Any random places?

Thinking

I love that quote above because it absolutely sums up how I feel about what I have to offer the world of decorating.  I want to help people create rooms that have layers and style- not just all the "right pieces."
Summer is just around the corner which means I will be taking a limited amount of clients, but if you would like my help give me a shout.

my house: my desk

The legs to my Mother's Day present were finally stocked at our IKEA.
We went with a kitchen counter top, butcher block style, because I really wanted something longer than a standard desk.  This was a cost-effective way to find something in a natural wood that could function as a dual workspace.

I also chose these legs because I feel like they add just the slightest feminine touch.
According to IKEA they are red but, I think they are much more coral/fuschia.
I temporarily stuck some extra dining chairs here but I have plans for some chairs that have been hanging out in my basement.

And here, is what I like to call a clean slate...

I always get such nerves before styling something so bare.
I have so many ideas of how I want this work area to look that
I almost don't know which direction to take.
This is when I have to take a step back and just go with my gut.
I swear if I didn't ever look at blogs I would just instinctively get to work,
but now with Pinterest and a slew of talented bloggers I get stage fright.
I'll try to work through it so I can share an "after" since that's all we care about anyways, right?!

Here are my two summer interns...

I'm not so sure about the one on the right...

the playroom!

I am so excited to be featured today on The Playroom blog!  They named Harper's nursery one of their top 6 favorite nurseries!  I am so flattered!

my life: mother's day

I celebrated Mother's Day a little early this year because
we had all of Taylor's family in town for the actual holiday.
We celebrated with my MIL by taking her out for mexican and bowling.
Then I got to sneak off with my mom and one of my two sisters for brunch and strolling the mall.

// my mom, sister, and me //

// my MIL and Harper...how about that stinker giving that over-the-shoulder smile?! //

And the boys entertained themselves, between cooking and cleaning, by doing a lot of this...

It was a pretty nice weekend and I perfected a little drink I have been working on.
It's the poor man's margarita...

1 can Bud Light Lime Straw-ber-rita
Pour over ice
Add 1 Tbsp lime juice
Add sliced strawberries and limes

They are tasty and easy and most importantly pretty!
Try it, you'll like it.
